When you have been using food as a coping mechanism for years, its hard to give that up cold turkey. The last fourty eight hours were really rough. Half of my sanity is the thirty minutes I built in my schedule during the morning to make sure I properly plan means. That time is now gone. Its difficult to order out. I almost feel as if when I spend my money on food, I deserve to eat WSHATEVER I want. Needless to say, because of the stress I've been under the last two days, not to mention the physical issues I've experienced this week, the last two days weren't easy.
Nonetheless, bright and early in the morning back to the exercise regiment.
Back to our regularly scheduled program!
This is my struggle/triumphs/victories/recommitments to losing weight, keeping it off, and adopting a healthier lifestyle. This is real and honest. I've done research in obesity and the "gazillion" of diets available to the American people. The idea is to share my struggles, to empower myself, to empower others. Comments, suggestions, ideas, are welcomed - whether we agree or disagree.

So Much or Little Can Happen in a Week's TIme
It's been a weeks journey, and the results are in.
Total weight loss = 11.5lbs.
Not the triumphant double digits that I was hoping for based on the Biggest Loser, but it's a start. Besides, I'm not working out nearly as much as they are, so I'm content.
HOWEVER, as they would say, I might have thrown the weight-in.
Yesterday was Sunday.......And I cheated, and I'm sure the scale reflects that. I had sausage for breakfast and cheese on my Ziti. A lot of cheese on my Ziti. (I'm really a rat disguised as a woman).
So, I will quote the Lion King, and state, in the words of Rafiki, "it doesn't matter it's in the past. You can either learn from it or run from it", and I've learned. Much tighter reigns will be kept on the food this week. This weeks challenge, log EVERYTHING you put in your mouth.
A wise person told me last week (or maybe two weeks ago), we never GRADUATE from EXERCISE. So I'm sticking to the current plan. Six days a week, a half hour a day.
Here's to LIVING your best life now!

Overcoming Temptation
I've been finding the exercise portion of this challenge easier than eating. Let's face it, I like to eat, and it shows. And I will never cease to enjoy food, however, I can be honest with myself and admit, that I can not eat - EVERYTHING - anymore.
The only way to overcome the temptation of dining out is to BE PREPARED. So I carry a "anti-temptation" kit of healthy alternatives to the usual $2.70 double cheese burger and fries. (It’s a conspiracy to offer food so bad for you at such a cheap price, if you ask me, but that’s another blog).
Pretzel sticks have become a new staple. First, they have the salt my body craves. They are crunchy. And they are much better for you than a bag of chips. And because I know there are only 24 – the serving size, I savor each bite.
Fresh fruit THANK GOD FOR SUMMER! Melons, Strawberries and (soon) Peaches – OH MY! (I will worry about the winter months later.)
I’ve also discovered a love for beans. So tonight’s exercise was to prepare no meat pinto beans. Now I grow up eating pinto beans made a variety of ways because my parents are from different parts of the country. Mommy’s does the bowl with a piece of buttermilk cornbread – can u say a complete tasty meal? Daddy’s came with some Mexican rice and Chicken fajitas, never the less, the beans were usually made with something smoked or salted. So this is uncharted territory for me.
I AM HAPPY TO REPORT, WITHOUT THE MEAT, MY BEANS, THEY ARE A BANGING! It is possible to cook, and have tasteful food without all of the fat!

Over the past ten years my weight has been the only consistent increase in my life, and for at least the last eight of those years I have tried different things, from pills to extreme diets, even some strange workouts to lose the weight. But it isn’t as simple as some may think.
The stomach, I’ve discovered has a mind of its own, literally. Satiety is controlled by a group of over 100 - 500 million nerve cells in the stomach (depending upon which scientist you would like to believe). Could it be, over eating is not so much a psychosomatic disorder? In fact, could it be something, in the stomach drawing one to food like an addict to a drug? Personally, I think it’s a combination. I will update this thought when I complete more research with in a few days....
So today is the day I decided to take control. This morning I got active, (and I’m feeling the activeness I tell you what) I did low impact aerobic activity this morning, and decided to take the stairs instead of the elevators (folks just walk around me, I feel like the slow car on the road, but its OKAY). I also decided to change the way I eat. I’ve established guidelines that to keep in step with my goals and so far so good.
Well, I’ve done the basics. Let’s see how far I can go!
